THANK GOD these Republitardican Teapartytards are dwindling! These people are the last vestiges of the dumbed-down Reagan-Era Republitards, who believed every word Reagan told them, while at the same time we watched medical insurance be turned into "managed care", we watched our salaries raise at a snail's crawl, and we watched our unions become weakened. Thank God these dumbed-down iediotardicans are dwindling, and hopefully America will soon begin to rebound for the middle and working class who flippin' built this nation! Ciao!
It truly amazes me how someone can take offense to the word "retarded", when the actual latin-derived definition of the word simply means "delayed", or to be made late. The literal Ialian word is "Ritardare", which literally is translated to "to be delayed". But, the individual who took offense to my using variations of "retarded" did so based on having an autistic child, but autism isn't a form of mental retardation. What is definite, though,is how mostly Right-wingding Teapartytardicans don't even know the root words of their own English language, yet they protest to speak English in America. One such example is that famous American president who said such words as "nukuler" and "misunderestimate", repeatedly, and he's not retarded!Come on folks, it's time to get real! Ciao
The words "retarded," "idiot" and "moron" were all entered into the English language as medical diagnostic terms, derived from Latin.
We know what happened to the common use of the latter two terms. That's why many take offense to the common use of "retarded" today - as if it insults and disrespects those who carry that diagnosis, even though that's the direct intention of persons using the word. That negative reception is especially true for those care for and/or are related to ones with that diagnosis.
Also, personal issues are what cause many to have interest and activity in political issues. Attend progressive functions or organization meetings, and you'll find many who find themselves deprived or overlooked in society for things such as legal and social issues that directly affect them. They participate with hopes of having those issues not just addressed politically, but respected socially. And that includes persons with disabilities of many types, and parents of children with mental retardation.
Autism is directly related to retardation, although not all with the former diagnosis automatically have the latter. Most with autism meet the diagnostic requirements of retardation, though.
