On March 8, niece Ronna Romney McDaniel told NBC’s Kate Snow that she’ll support Trump if he gets the nomination, and no matter what her uncle says.
Here’s a transcript of that portion of the interview, conducted while the Michigan primary elections were underway that same day:
SNOW: So, clearly, Ronna, he is trying hard to draw support away from Donald Trump. He’s also got a robocall running in other states that’s supportive of Marco Rubio. Is it going to work here in Michigan? How do you see things playing out?
ROMNEY McDANIEL: I think passions are very high. People are very concerned. I’m not surprised that my Uncle Mitt is concerned about this country. That doesn’t go away after running for president. I have a lot of family in this state; they are all over the map in this election. We are going to see tonight … I do hear that voter turnout’s high. Our crowds have been huge – the enthusiasm’s been huge – the enthusiasm’s been huge all year.
I think it’s up to the voters. And we’re going to support the nominee here in Michigan no matter who it is. I am neutral.
SNOW: If it’s Donald Trump, eventually, will you support him?
ROMNEY McDANIEL: It’s up the voters to decide. That’s their choice and we’re going to support whomever the nominee is of our party.
